PHOENIX (AP) - Police say a Phoenix man stabbed his 5-year-old son to death before turning the knife on himself in a failed murder-suicide.

Phoenix police Detective James Holmes says the man's sister found him and his son with several knife wounds Tuesday afternoon.

Holmes says the man apparently stabbed his son several times before beginning to stab himself.

While the boy died, the man is in an area hospital and is expected to survive.

The man had several cuts on his neck and other parts of his body. His identity has not been released.
