Yuma, AZ November 3- City of Yuma officials say this election showed some promising signs.
Dave Nash, Public Affairs Coordinator with the City of Yuma says voter turnout is up from the primary election.
"As the ballots come in throughout the day, they've been a little bit ahead of the pace of the primary election back in September," said Nash. "It seems a few more people, at least if the pace continues to hold throughout the day and evening, will be voting in this election as voted in the primary."
Nash also says the numbers are strong for mail-in ballots; 10,000 ballots were sent out, and 6,104 have been officially confirmed.
"We don't know how many are going to come in," said Nash, "we know that as of late last week, they had kept up with those that had come in; we know that we'll have several thousand of those that will be counted and processed, plus the results from people who voted in the polls Tuesday."
However, Nash says 4,000 mail-in ballots are still floating around, enough to push a candidate over the top.
"If all 4,000 remaining come back in, that's a significant enough gap to be able to swing an election; so we won't be able to make any estimates who's going to be elected with that many votes outstanding," said Nash.
Results will not be official until they have been confirmed by the Yuma City Council. Officials say this will most likely happen at the November 18th City Council meeting.
