Arizona man sentenced in Mexican sex tour case

Associated Press - November 17, 2009 10:54 PM ET

PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say an Arizona man has been sentenced to two years in prison and lifetime supervised release for attempting to engage in sex with minors.

Federal prosecutors say 79-year-old Richard Hendryx, of Morristown, was sentenced Tuesday in U.S. District Court.

Hendryx was charged in May 2008 with one count of travel with intent to engage in a sexual act with a minor and two counts of distribution of child pornography.

Authorities say Hendryx arrived at a prearranged meeting spot and paid to go on what he believed to be a tour of Mexico that would offer him an opportunity to have sex with two boys under the age of 11. But the tour was an undercover operation run by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Hendryx pleaded guilty in the case last Dec. 29.
