Yuma, AZ November 25- Millions nationwide are hitting the highway this holiday weekend. Experts are encouraging you to make sure your car is ready for the road.

According to AAA experts, 85% of all holiday travelers are driving versus flying this holiday weekend. Officials say the few minutes it takes to properly maintain your car could be the difference between a ruined Thanksgiving holiday, or worse.

Before you rev up your engine and take off this holiday weekend, do yourself and your loved ones a favor and make sure your car is in good shape. Mechanic and Team Ramco Owner Flash Sharrar says it's very important to make sure your tires are properly inflated.

"Under-inflated is where to the outside of the tire, outside edges; over-inflated is the inside section of the tires; most pemetric tires of most passenger cars are 35 PSI all the way around," said Sharrar.

Sharrar says your tire pressure recommendation is located on the side of your car door. It's also a good idea to check your fluid levels.

"People need to keep their levels full, check your engine oil, check their transmission fluid, power steering fluid, wiper-washer motor, you get bugs or something on your windshield, it's a glare or a hazard; make sure that windshield stays clean while operating down our motorways," said Sharrar.

An emergency kit could be a lifesaver when you least expect it.

"In the trunk of the car should be flares, jumper cables, some signs, spare tires, a jack, and always in the desert area, water, always a gallon of fresh water to be located in the car all the time," said Sharrar.

Sharrar reminds you to check your fan belt, make sure you don't have any exhaust leaks, and don't forget to take a look at your air filter.

"Air filters are very important; most people don't change them, they don't see them, a lot of people don't provide proper service anymore, an air filter can drain your pocket, the cleaner the air filter, the better the fuel economy," said Sharrar.
