No money for Imperial Valley farm conservation

No money for Imperial Valley farm conservation

Posted: Updated:

Imperial County, California -- State budget cuts are hitting the Imperial Valley's farmland conservation project hard.

The county has been working under the Williamson Act, which allows sections of land to be set aside and protected so they can only be used for farming for a 10 year period.

But this year's state budget for the Willamson Act in Imperial County was only $16.22.

Because of this the County Board of Supervisors has chosen to end the Williamson Act, and they will not renew any of the current 10 year contracts.
