LOS ANGELES (AP) - Clayton Kershaw scattered nine hits and struck out nine while tying his career-best winning streak of 10 games, and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Atlanta Braves 2-1 last night to complete the three-game sweep. The Dodgers won their season-high sixth in a row and swept the Braves for the first time since taking four in a row from July 26-29, 1990, at home.
BALTIMORE (AP) - Albert Pujols hit an RBI single in the 13th inning, and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Baltimore Orioles 1-0 last night to avert a three-game series sweep. Tyler Skaggs and six relievers combined on a five-hitter, and David Freese matched a career high with four hits to help Los Angeles improve to 3-10 in one-run games on the road.
SAN DIEGO (AP) - Shelby Miller and three relievers combined on a three-hitter, and Oscar Taveras hit a two-run homer for the St. Louis Cardinals, who beat the San Diego Padres 6-2 yesterday to avoid a three-game sweep. Miller (8-8) held San Diego to two runs and three hits in six innings, struck out five and walked none. He earned his first win since June 7.
CLEVELAND (AP) - The Seattle Mariners have acquired veteran outfielder Chris Denorfia from the San Diego Padres for a pair of minor leaguers. Seattle announced the deal about 90 minutes before baseball's non-waiver trade deadline yesterday. The Mariners sent outfielder Abraham Almonte, their opening day starter in center field, and right-hander Stephen Kohlscheen to the Padres.
