DETROIT (AP) - The Los Angeles Angels have recalled right-hander Josh Wall from Triple-A Salt Lake and optioned left-hander Jose Alvarez to Salt Lake. The Angels made the moves before Friday night's game at Detroit, meaning Alvarez would not have a chance to pitch against his former team. The Tigers traded Alvarez to the Angels before the season for shortstop Andrew Romine.

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) - Jonathan Quick realizes that even the NHL's best defensive team is powerless against a few bad bounces of the puck. The Los Angeles Kings and their star goalie aren't worrying or panicking after they were blitzed 6-3 by the San Jose Sharks in their playoff opener. The Kings fell behind by five goals in the first two periods before Quick was pulled during an evening of surprises for a defensive powerhouse.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - As much as the Los Angeles Clippers and Golden State Warriors don't like each other, they're a lot alike in some ways. There's an All-Star point guard on each side, they're both young and athletic, and each franchise is trying to distance itself from an inglorious past that cast them as afterthoughts for most of their years in the NBA. The teams have tangled while splitting their four games this season, most famously on Christmas, when Blake Griffin was elbowed by Warriors forward Draymond Green.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Reliever Sean Doolittle has received a five-year contract from the Oakland Athletics, a deal that contains a pair of club options that could extend the agreement through the 2020 season. Oakland announced the contract Friday ahead of a home weekend series against the Houston Astros.
