Marie Hamill joined KSWT-13 in September 2011. She is an Arizona native and grew up in Oro Valley. Marie loves hot weather and is always amazed by our beautiful desert sunsets.
She studied theater arts for two years and later changed majors when she realized she had a passion for news. Marie graduated from the University of Arizona with a focus in broadcast journalism and she also interned at a variety of locations to gain experience and knowledge that would help her become a better journalist.
Her first internship was for a council member in Tucson. She wanted to learn more about local politics and get behind the scenes to see how city government functions. She later was selected for a full-time Senate internship with Arizona Capitol Television for the legislative session of 2010.
From there she went on to work as a political director for a statewide senate campaign. She had the opportunity to travel the state, visiting almost every county and meeting with elected officials and heads of organizations to learn more about the issues in each area.
Although Marie is interested in politics, she says that she is not an activist and has no intentions in pursuing a career in the field. She only got involved to learn more about the process in effort to give more accurate reports on governmental affairs.
In the spring of 2011 Marie interned at Arizona Public Media (PBS), where she worked on shows like Arizona Illustrated and Arizona connection. She spent many summer days shadowing reporters at KVOA in Tucson, where she learned what it takes to be successful in the business.
She is beyond excited to begin a new chapter of her life here in Yuma as an Anchor/ Reporter for KSWT.
Marie says that she not only wants to keep our community informed, but that she will also strive to entertain, enlighten, share great stories, and most importantly become a watch dog and voice for our people.
