Police "Struggling" to Clear Parent of Missing Girl

Yuma, AZ December 23 -- The Yuma Police Department says it's investigating both parents in the case of a missing child.  Damaris Herrera-Lopez vanished on December 10th after running away from the McDonald's parking lot on Fourth Avenue.  Detectives say it is standard practice to take a close look at both parents, but they also say they are "struggling" to clear one of the parents.  They will not say which parent is under more scrutiny.

On Monday, the father sat down with KSWT to say he's growing weary in the search for his daughter.  Rey Herrera is hitting some major roadblocks, and he says investigators are offering very little information.

"To this day they haven't told me any new leads or where this case is going," says Herrera.  He's also upset because police never issued an Amber Alert.

"I don't know what it takes, the criteria that they told me she has to meet. All I know is I need the public's help.  I'm going to corporate offices and businesses and telling them, you know, that I need to put my daughter's picture. Oh we can't, you know, because it's against their policies. I mean this is a child that's missing," says Herrera.

Rey has refused to respond to allegations made by his estranged wife-- comments that bring his life-style and friends into question.  Instead he is focused on finding Damaris.

He believes his daughter is somewhere with someone.

"Yes. Gut feeling, yes. But all I know is we're going to find her, and we're going to get you back home and I love you and God has his hand upon you, meja, protecting you."

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of 10-year-old Damaris Herrera-Lopez is urged to call the Yuma Police Department or 78-CRIME to remain anonymous.
