Yuma, AZ January 14 -- A college police officer has located the car allegedly involved in a fatal hit and run that happened on Thursday night.
On Thursday, January 13, 2011, at 7:01 pm, Yuma Police Officers responded to the 2600 block South Avenue 9E in reference to a fatal hit and run collision.
According to a release from the Yuma Police Department, the driver of the car is Nathan Tom Bartley, 18 years old of Yuma. Police say Bartley was interviewed, arrested and booked into the Yuma County Detention Center on charges of manslaughter and accident involving death/failure to stop. Bartley had an initial appearance at Yuma Justice Court Friday.
According to the Arizona Western College Men's Football website Bartley is an offensive lineman for the college and is from Hawaii. He is a freshman.
Police say the investigation revealed two 15 year old males were riding their bicycles in the area of Avenue 9E and the railroad tracks. As the two teens crossed Avenue 9E, a northbound 2000 Ford Explorer collided with one of the bicyclists, identified as Anthony Acosta. Yuma investigators say the driver took off northbound without stopping.
Anthony Acosta was transported to the Yuma Regional Medical Center where he died.
Several witnesses were located and interviewed to include the three passengers inside Bartley's vehicle at the time of the collision.
The AWC community is overcome with sadness by this death in our neighborhood. Dr. Glenn Mayle, AWC President said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, classmates and teachers of the young victim."
The AWC Police Department is assisting in the ongoing investigation.

Yuma, AZ Jan. 13, 2010- A 15-year old boy is killed in a hit and run in Yuma. It happened around 7 o'clock Thursday evening in the 2600 block of South Avenue 9E.
According to the Yuma Police Department two 15 year old boys were riding their bikes, as they crossed avenue 9E, a dark colored vehicle collided with one of the boys.
The suspect took off.
The victim was taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center where he died.
