LOS ANGELES (AP) - Goran Dragic scored 31 points and the Phoenix Suns beat the Lakers 114-108 last night, keeping Los Angeles winless with Kobe Bryant back in the lineup. Bryant led the Lakers with 20 points while playing 29 mostly sharp minutes in his second game back from a nearly eight-month absence with a torn Achilles tendon. He led a fourth-quarter rally by the Lakers, who got within four points with 3 minutes left before Phoenix held on for its first three-game winning streak of the season.
DENVER (AP) - Antoine Vermette scored two goals, Thomas Greiss stopped 29 shots and the Phoenix Coyotes beat the Colorado Avalanche 3-1 last night. Jordan Szwarz also had a goal for the Coyotes, who won for just the second time in five games. Phoenix has struggled of late, going 3-5-2 in its past 10 games to slip to ninth in the Western Conference. Yesterday's win pulled the Coyotes within a point of Colorado.
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (AP) - The Los Angeles Angels have traded slugging outfielder-first baseman Mark Trumbo to the Arizona Diamondbacks as part of a three-team deal that also includes the Chicago White Sox. Pitcher Hector Santiago moved from the White Sox to the Angels, outfielder Adam Eaton from Diamondbacks to Chicago, and left-hander Tyler Skaggs from Arizona to Los Angeles.
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - The Arizona Cardinals have placed rookie defensive back Tyrann Mathieu on injured reserve and promoted safety Curtis Taylor from the practice squad to take the vacant roster spot. Mathieu, the second-leading tackler on the team, tore ligaments in his left knee in Sunday's 30-10 victory over St. Louis and will undergo surgery next week.
