Budget cuts at the federal level will begin affecting the general population as early as next week.
Starting on Monday, August 15th, Social Security offices nationwide will close their doors half an hour earlier than they currently do.
For most people in Yuma and Imperial Counties, that means their local office will close at 3:30 PM each week day rather than 4:00 PM.
The Social Security Administration says employees will still work their regular shifts, but offices will close their so-called "public window" early in an effort to cut back on overtime by ensuring everyone has been helped by the time employees have to clock out for the day.
