October 21, 2011 is National Mammography Day

It's celebrated the third Friday in October. On this day, women are encouraged to make an appointment to get a mammogram.

Breast cancer is the second most fatal cancer among women.

Officials estimate that about 34-hundred women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in Arizona this year and almost 700 will die of the disease.

National mammography day was first proclaimed by President Clinton 18 years ago.
