FedEx celebrates the grand opening of a new retail center in Yuma

Yuma, az-A new shipping facility is now available in the Desert Southwest for those shipping packages anywhere in the world.
"Were excited about it, lets say it was a longtime coming. We think its going to be good, not only the FedEx employees but for our regular shippers because we get a lot of the growers in," Bill Bond, senior manager of FedEx Yuma said. "Then when the lettuce season starts its more convenient for them as well."
The new Fed Ex Center, which stands close to the Yuma International Airport provides a larger package sorting facility and more space for their aircraft.
"The present is not going to be as big as the future growth. I've seen tremendous growth over the last 7 years with the Yuma Palms Mall and some of the housing area so we all like to get out in front and prepare for the future," Bond said.
Recently, FedEx announced it will increase its workforce by approximately 20,000 seasonal positions throughout the nation to help handle the surge in holiday shipments.
Bond said the new center will help meet Yuma's demand during winter season and especially when the Marine Corps Air Station-Yuma develops the F-35 joint strike fighter base project.
"We expect that to grow as the competition continues to grow so its been good in that respect," Bond said.
Bond said the new FedEx center is now in full operation and ready to ship your package.
