A California Highway Patrol Lieutenant arrested for committing lewd acts with a minor Thursday, is no longer behind bars.
John Swaim was released from jail Thursday after posting $100,000 bond. He self surrendered to the Imperial County Jail Court for arraignment, following a complaint filed Thursday morning by the Imperial County District Attorney's Office.
In October, the Imperial County Sheriff's Office turned over their investigation on Swaim, who is suspected of sexually victimizing two female juveniles on separate occasions more than a decade ago.
Swaim's attorney plead not guilty to the charges on his behalf.
CHP says they are aware of the charges brought against their highest commander at the Winterhaven Office. They say he remains on paid administrative leave pending the results of an internal investigation they are conducting. Swaim has been on leave from work since the allegations went public last month.
