Karen Castro joined the KSWT News 13 team in October 2011 as a multimedia journalist and assignment desk editor.
Karen was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She attended California State University, Northridge where she majored in Journalism with a concentration in Broadcast. She also obtained a minor in Spanish-Language Journalism. As a student at CSUN, Karen was a reporter/anchor for the award winning student newscast, Valley View News. She was also a host for an L.A. public affairs show called On Point.
During her college senior year, Karen was an intern at KABC in Los Angeles. While shadowing a news reporter, she had the opportunity to interview three of the Chilean miners that were rescued after being trapped underground for over two months. She landed an exclusive interview despite media restrictions during their first visit to Los Angeles.
Karen says she misses Los Angeles but was ready for a change after living there her entire life. She is happy to be in Yuma and looks forward to reporting on immigration issues.
She says she enjoys spending time with family and friends and looks forward to meeting new people in Yuma.
