YUMA, Ariz. - A local wireless provider is offering free cell phones for the needy living in Yuma County.
Safelink Link Wireless is giving low-income families a change to stay connected.
With the help of the Yuma Community Food Bank and WACOG, they were able to launch a community out reach program that gives cell phones at no cost.
Safelink is only taking applications by phone. You can call (928) 726- 6200 to check if you qualify. You must have a home mailing address, no P.O. Boxes are accepted. There is a limit of one cell phone per household.
If you qualify, it usually takes about three weeks to receive the phone by mail.
After a year, people will have to re-qualify for the program.
