Yuma Marine's Christmas song a big hit on Internet

Yuma, Arizona December 14, 2011 - MSgt. Robert Allen sings his Christmas song to his wife, Carla.

"It's Christmas time and I'm gone again," sings MSgt. Allen in a recently-released YouTube video of him singing and playing a guitar.  He is currently deployed at Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan with Marine Wing Support Squadron 371 from Marine Corps Air Station Yuma.

"The Christmas Song was written when he was in Iraq so it's four years old," says Carla, who's been married to MSgt. Allen for 17 years.  "The first time I heard it, I cried.  I still cry when I see it because he's so far away."

Robert sings to Carla's heart...all the way in Yuma, Arizona.

"The first deployment was a hard one for me and he knew that and it was our first Christmas apart," says Carla.  "It's our Christmas song."

MSgt. Allen's Christmas song has made him an Internet sensation.

"When he called and told me he was going to be on YouTube, we all got excited because we were telling him forever he needs to out his songs out because he writes a lot of songs," says Carla.

Besides writing songs for Carla, Robert writes ones for their three kids too.

"We still cry," says Carla.  "He's still gone so we still cry, but it's good to see him."

And a lot of folks are connecting to MSgt. Allen's song like service personnel on deployment and their loved ones.  But for Carla, she knows who Robert is singing to.

"To me, it's always my song," says Carla.  "I've had a lot of people tell me they send it to their spouse or someone that he's with send it to their spouses too."
