Yuma, Arizona January 1, 2012 - Meet María Catalina Mayorga, Yuma's first baby of the year.
"I'm really happy that my baby
was born and everything went well," says María de Jesus Mayorga.
Catalina was
born at Yuma Regional Medical Center at 1:23 a.m. New Year's morning, weighing in at
5 lbs. 13 oz. and measuring 19.5 inches tall.
María and Joaquin Mayorga of San Luis, Arizona came to YRMC when María experienced
difficulties in the pregnancy.
"It was bad. They told me they would have to
operate," says María. "Two hours later, they were supposed to operate, but that didn't
happen. Thanks to God, everything went well and it was a normal
delivery."
Joaquin feels grateful to those who
helped María deliver Catalina, their first child together.
"I'm also happy
the hospital staff supported my wife," says Joaquin. "And the hospital gave us a lot of gifts
for having the first baby of the year."
Catalina
won't be alone; she joins a blended family of kids from María and Joaquin's
previous marriages.
"We have many dreams that she goes forth to become a great
young woman."
