Mexican Government to charge SENTRI lane fee

SAN LUIS, Ariz. - Two controversial toll booths at a local port of entry may pick up construction again.

Recently the flow of traffic from San Luis Rio Colorado slowed down because of the toll booth construction on Carlos Avenue and 16th Street.

The SENTRI lanes at the San Luis Port of Entry are still open and SENTRI lane users have been rerouted to 2nd Street.

Residents on both side of the border are up in arms over possible sentry lane fees.

"I think it's really bad because there are a lot of people that have to cross frequently here to the United States. It's unjust that they are charging," said Javier Ramirez, a repeated crosser.

The Mexican company, Concession and International Cocopah Bridge plans to charge SENTRI lane users about $2 (25 Pesos) to use the lane.

SENTRI lane users are part of a trusted traveler program who paid nearly $150 for their membership.
