Winterhaven, Ca.- A fatal single vehicle accident slows down traffic on the interstate Monday evening. It happened just before 4:30 p.m. (PT) on eastbound I8 near the Gordons Well exit in Winterhaven.

California Highway Patrol is investigating what caused a beige Ford F-150 carrying a travel trailer to roll over.

CHP says wind gusts could have been a factor in the accident. They say wind gusts may have caused the driver to lose control after the trailer began to whip back and forth. CHP says the pick-up then skidded off the road into the center divider where it overturned and the trailer disconnected.

Two people trapped inside of the pick-up truck had to be extracated.

CHP says the driver, 55-year old Robbie Foster of Montana, suffered head trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene. They say his passenger, 55-year old Susan Foster of Montana, was life-flighted to Yuma Regional Medical Center with an injury to the leg and unspecified internal injuries.

Several different agencies were on scene, including the Imperial County Sheriff's Office, the Winterhaven Fire Department, Gold Cross and Rural Metro.

Traffic was restricted on the interstate for more than 2 hours. As of 7:30 p.m. (PT) the flow of traffic was back to normal.
