Somerton City council votes to fill two vacant police officer positions

SOMERTON, Ariz. - A local law enforcement agency is hiring.

The Somerton City Council has unanimously approved to open two police positions that were previously halted because of city budget cuts.

During a council meeting last week, council members voted to resume the search for a patrol officer and dispatcher.

Officials say there is a high demand to fill in the vacancies.

City officials say the police department is short staffed and they need to fill the position as soon as possible to better service the public.

Hiring ads were posted on the city's website. Today was the last day to apply. City officials say they have received a lot of applications and they are ready to start screening them.
