Phoenix, AZ-- San Luis Port of Entry Smuggler sentenced to Federal Prison.
A man has been sentenced this week to 20 years in prison for attempting to smuggle heroin at the San Luis Port of Entry.
23-year old Phoenix Resident, Miguel Quintero, was convicted back in October, 2011 by a Federal Jury for Importation of Heroin and Possession with Intent to Distribute.
Evidence at the trial showed that Quintero had more than $400,000 worth of heroin hidden in the drive shaft of his vehicle when he tried to enter the U.S. at the San Luis Port of Entry.
Despite Quintero's testimony saying the drugs were placed in his car during repairs at a Phoenix mechanic shop or at the direction of a woman he was dating in Mexico, the jury found him guilty on both counts.
Authorities found more than six kilograms in his possession.
