U.S. Marshals arrest sexual offender at San Luis Port of Entry

SAN LUIS, Ariz. - Authorities have arrested a violent sexual offender in the Desert Southwest.

The U.S. Marshals say they apprehended Stephen Ray Douglas at the San Luis Port of Entry.

The 62-year-old was wanted in Florida by the Levy County Sheriff's Department for failing to register as a sex offender.

Douglas was convicted back in 1989 for brutally raping a woman in Florida.

After serving a 15 year prison sentence, he registered as a sex offender until 2002.

Soon after, Douglas was not up to par with his probation and his whereabouts where unknown.

Last year, the U.S. Marshals took his case and an investigation led them to contact Douglas in San Luis Rio Colorado.

They then negotiated his arrest at the port of entry.

Douglas was booked into imperial county jail. He was in court today for his initial appearance. He will be back in court next week.
