Marine based in Yuma involved in fatal crash


SAN DIEGO, CA - A local marine is dead after the vehicle he was traveling in was involved in a rollover crash over the weekend in San Diego.

Marine Corps Air Station in Yuma identified the victim as 24-year-old Pedro Conceicao.

California Highway Patrol in San Diego says the driver of the vehicle was intoxicated and traveling at a high speed Sunday morning around 3:30am Pacific Time.

The Chevrolet car was traveling on the northbound State Route 163 attempting to get on Interstate 8 eastbound when it lost control and rolled over on the side of the roadway.

Two of the three rear passengers were ejected, one being Conceicao who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second victim ejected received major injuries. The third person traveling in the rear of the vehicle received minor injuries.

CHP says the driver did not receive any injuries but was hospitalized for observation.

After being released from the hospital, the driver was booked into San Diego County Sheriff's Las Colinas Women's Detention Center.
