Oldest football player in college history visits Yuma

YUMA, AZ- Faulkner University kicker Alan Moore just turn 62 last week and recently wrapped up a football season in December. He now has a movie in the works about his life with local award winning film makers Joel Silverman and Doyle McCurley.

"I'm excited about it, it's in the beginning stages working with studios and producers," says Moore.

Moore has made history by being the oldest player to score on the field in college football.  40 years ago Moore was a kicker on his high school football team in Taylorsville Mississippi and was considered to be one of the best in the state.

"I played in 1968 at Jones County Junior College in Mississippi and we won a national championship that year, but then I joined the Army and went to Vietnam," says Moore.

He says he was 18 years old and ready to take on the world and when he returned from Vietnam there was no time for football.

"I got married after Vietnam, had children and started working in construction for 37 years and I just never had time to think about football," says Moore.

In 2009 Moore was laid off from work and found himself with a lot of time on his hands.

"I was at a Jones County College football game one night and the kicker couldn't kick and I said I could do it better than him," says Moore.

With his new found free time Moore started practicing everyday, landed a spot on a couple junior college teams and eventually found himself kicking for Faulkner University.

He played for one full season but due to economic constraints he could no longer attended the university and had to drop out.

"This wasn't about me getting a degree, a degree isn't going to do me any good at age 62. I want to inspire kids to not give up on their dreams and stay in school to get their degrees so they can provide for their family better in the future," says Moore.

Although he is not attending school this semester he says he has until august to decided whether he will return to the university to finish his studies and play ball.
