Gadsden Elementary District band receives Congressional Record

SAN LUIS, AZ - The Gadsden Elementary District marching band performed in front of a cheerful crowd in celebration of their most recent accomplishments.

The students were paid a visit by Congressman Raul Grijalva who had a nice surprise, an honor from Washington.

"I feel very proud of us and I feel so excited that we're going to make history. I don't have words to say, I'm so excited," said one marching band dancer.

This is the first time that the City of San Luis received a congressional record... Which is an official federal document honoring the school's achievements.

"It don't matter where you come from. You work hard, play by the rules, something good is going to happen," said Congressman Raul Grijalva.

That's exactly why the City of San Luis is celebrating the band's many accomplishments.

Students have also been invited by the former Lord Mayor of Westminster to participate in the New Year's Day Parade in London.

"I like music a lot. I'm really excited to go to another far place doing what I love," said a trumpet player for the band.

The marching band is among ten participating groups traveling from the United States.

"We need to raise our funds. But we're going to meet the wishes that we need to get and get there," said Mireya Bordon, mother of a band member.

She says they plan on having many fundraisers to be able to pay for all the band members to be able to go to London.
