Border Patrol agents arrest suspected smugglers, seize marijuana

Yuma, AZ.- Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents arrest 11 suspected smugglers and seize more than 400 pounds of marijuana.

The agents, who work out of the Wellton station, were patrolling Interstate 8 Monday morning when they spotted a group of 6 individuals carrying marijuana.

Later on, agents patrolling near Gila Bend caught a group of 5 individuals wearing large backpacks of marijuana, who were traveling the desert by foot.

The total value of the marijuana confiscated by agents is more than $203,000.

The suspected smugglers and the marijuana were turned over to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.
