School Officials address Imperial Valley College closing down rumors

IMPERIAL, CA - In these tough economic times public education does not seem to get a break from budget cuts.

Campuses all over the country have had to cut staff, faculty and student resources.

In the Desert Southwest rumors have spread around Imperial Valley College that the campus is closing down.

School officials want to put those rumors to rest and are holding a forum this Thursday to clear the air.

"It was word of mouth; it was some emails that went around… I think it kind of sparked it but the thing we want to stress is that we are continuing courses, we are continuing classes," said Bill Gay, Media and Community Relations Director at IVC. "Next year is going to be our 50th [anniversary] at Aten Road. We are going to be moving forward. We are also dealing with some very serious budget crisis and we are working through those also," he said.

Any students that would like to attend; the forum will take place March, 29, 2012 at the College Center at Imperial Valley College located at 380 Aten Road, Imperial, California.

The forum will be from 2pm-3pm.

Several topics will be up for discussion including the severe budget cuts IVC is experiencing, reducing services, program offerings and the rumors going around that the campus is shutting down.
