Babeu speaks to Yuma County Republican Women's Club
YUMA, AZ- Pinal County Sheriff and Congressional Candidate Paul Babeu was in Yuma Wednesday.
He spoke in front of the Yuma County Republican Women's Club at Desert Hills Golf Course.
Babeu reminded the group that he lived in Yuma and was a leader in the military.
He says his time in the Desert Southwest helps him understand the important local issues, "I had the great privilege to be the commander of task force Yuma so I lived right here and commanded soldiers here in support of our heroes at the border patrol" says Babeu.
Early in the campaign, Babeu acknowledged he is gay after an ex-boyfriend made allegations to a Phoenix newspaper that he felt he was being threatened if he didn't stay quiet about the relationship.
Babeu told News 13 he questions the timing of that. He says he wants the race to be about his skills as a leader.
He is facing competition from U.S. Representative Paul Gosar and state Senator Ron Gould.
