YUMA, AZ- A suspect arrested for allegedly stabbing a man at a local car wash is charged with attempted first degree murder.

22 year old Camilo Zantoyo was in Yuma Justice Court Tuesday afternoon.

He was arrested by Yuma Police Thursday for allegedly stabbing 73 year old Jose Ramirez-Pichardo in the chest on February 25 at the Speedway Car Wash on 8th Street.

After learning about the complaint filed against him, Judge Gregory Stewart asked Zantoyo if he would like the court to appoint an attorney to represent him... He declined and said he "wanted to represent himself".

Judge Stewart asked, "have you represented yourself in a case previously?" Zantoyo replied, "it was like a misdemeanor." Judge Stewart then said, "and you understand the seriousness of the charge pending against you, a class 2 felony, I hope." Zantoyo paused and then said, "yea I understand."

However, Judge Stewart appointed Zantoyo with an attorney to represent him. He said after meeting with the attorney if Zantoyo still wants to represent himself he can.

Zantoyo remains in custody on $1 million bond.

He's back in court for a preliminary hearing next week.
