4 homes catch fire, 9 people evacuated


EL CENTRO, CA- Nine people are evacuated from their homes after multiple houses catch fire.

It happened around 2 a.m. Thursday in the 800 block of Brighton Avenue in El Centro.

Fire officials were still on scene all afternoon investigating.

The El Centro Fire Department says the house that caught fire had severe damage. They say it was vacant and is known to have transients there.

ECFD says one home near it had moderate damage, and another 2 homes had exterior damage.

In total 4 houses were damaged.

It took firefighters 30 minutes to control the fire and about 2 hours to extinguish it.

Fire officials say the people evacuated were able to find other living arrangements.

The investigation as to what sparked the fire continues.
