Yuma Home Deemed Unsafe for Human Habitation

Posted:

YUMA, AZ – Tuesday evening KSWT learned of some revolting news provided by the City of Yuma. A Yuma home has been condemned and deemed unsafe for human habitation.

The decision comes from the City of Yuma with recommendations from the Yuma County Department of Health Services.

Late last week city inspectors entered the house located in the 2400 block of Sierra Vista Avenue on an administrative search warrant and made some gruesome discoveries.

Some of which include human and animal feces all over the flooring, laying loose, stored in bags and smeared on the floor, insect and pest infestation, including numerous fleas that covered the inspectors and cockroaches. Also, deceased, distressed and living cats were discovered, among many other unhealthy and unsanitary findings.

According to the city, they are taking emergency measures as permitted by law to protect neighbors.

The city has boarded up the property and has it off limits to all personnel other than city or county officials or their subcontractors.

Once pest abatement allows for further inspection of the property the city and its environmental contractor will determine steps needed for mitigation, and demolition could be a possibility.
