Applebee's collects money and food to help fight hunger


EL CENTRO, CA- A local restaurant collects hundreds of dollars along with food donations for the Imperial Valley Food Bank.

During Applebee's VIP event Tuesday in El Centro, $532 was received to help alleviate hunger in the valley.

Also those who attended donated 87 pounds of food to help stock the food banks shelves.

Applebee's held the event to show off their newly remodeled restaurant.

And you too can help both the Yuma Community Food Bank and the Imperial Valley Food Bank with the click of your mouse.

Both are in the running to win $50,000 to $1 million in Walmarts Fight Hunger Campaign on Facebook.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Yuma is currently staying steady in 6th place and El Centro has moved up to 50th place from 59th Tuesday.

The city with the most votes gets $1 million dollars and the following 20 cities get $50,000.

You can vote everyday for both food banks until April 30.
