YUMA, AZ - The very first Yuma Film Festival was held today in downtown.
Filmmakers in the Desert Southwest showcased their talent during the 1st Annual Independent Film Art and Music Festival.
The festival featured a wide range of film projects by local students and independent filmmakers.
Organizers say this was an effort to provide a public platform for local talent to get publicity of their work.
The film festival featured 22 films from different genres including drama, science fiction and comedy.
The films varied in length from 30 seconds to up to 30 minutes.
The event concluded with a Hollywood director and producer as guest speakers.
Local artist also had the opportunity to showcase their talent during the Film, Art, and Music Festival.
Despite the triple digit weather hundreds came out to see the art exhibits.
Artists displayed their art pieces while also admiring the work of their peers.
Jodi Leighloper, a local painter, says the festival was a great opportunity for her and the community to admire local talent.
She says she likes painting clouds and birds on a wire the most. She also enjoys taking scripture and painting it abstract.
