$7.5 million seized in marijuana

CALEXICO, CA- U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers seize nearly $7.5 million in marijuana.

It happened Friday night around 8 at the Calexico East cargo facility and border station.

CBP says a 30 year old Mexicali man driving a 1996 tractor trailer with cargo manifested as radishes and brussels sprouts was referred for further inspection.

They say a canine team alerted suspicion to the trailer.

Officers then found 1,030 wrapped packages of marijuana hidden inside cardboard boxes mingled in with the agriculture products.

They say the marijuana weighed more than 7,500 pounds.

The driver was arrested for the alleged narcotic smuggling attempt.
