Somerton charter school moves to more ample location

SOMERTON, AZ - The only charter school in Somerton had something very special to celebrate this afternoon.

Somerton school and city officials held a ribbon cutting ceremony at their new facility.

The PPEP-TEC High School moved to a brand new location just across the street from their former location on the 200 block of Bingham Avenue.

"The biggest change is that more kids are coming in and its more packed so here is like bigger and we have more time," said one student.

The new school is just across the street from the old location but it's double the size.

"We were all tight and squeezed and now we feel like we can spread our wings and education is a little bit better because they have more time," said Gloria Rodriguez, lead teacher at PPEP-TEC.

School officials say it's quite an upgrade that will allow them to teach their students on a more intimate environment.

The old location did not have individual rooms but rather one huge room sectioned off.

"Over there they didn't have rooms separated so you can hear the other teachers teaching while you were doing something else," said another student.

But now, there are seven classrooms through out the facility.

And in addition to celebrating their new location, staff and faculty are happy to announce they are now providing a free lunch to their 130 as of two weeks ago.

"Back then we either buy something or we didn't eat."
