Suspected smugglers, marijuana seized by Border Patrol - | News for Yuma, Imperial Valley, El Centro, AZ & CA

YUMA, AZ- Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents arrest twelve suspected smugglers and seize more than 480 pounds of marijuana.

It happened in two separate incidents Tuesday.

Agents assigned to the Wellton station were patrolling near Gila Bend when they saw a group traveling through the desert with large rectangular backpacks.

When agents caught up to the group, they arrested five illegal immigrants along with 315 pounds of marijuana totaling nearly $160,000.

Two hours later, agents patrolling in the same area located another group this time they arrested seven carrying nearly 170 pounds of marijuana which was valued at $84,000.
