Valenzuela & Ochoa back in Yuma court and formally charged

Posted:

Yuma, AZ - Both Elsi Valenzeula and Jonathon Roger Ochoa stood before Judge Gregory Stewart at the Yuma County Justice Court.

State prosecutors are alleging both Valenzuela and Ochoa were involved with the murder of 33-year old Kendal Smith of Yuma who was brutally beat with a base ball bat.

Valenzuela has 5 separate charges currently pending against her.

"1st degree murder, conspiracy to commit possession of narcotic drugs, conspiracy to armed robbery, transport of narcotic drug- specifically heroin more than 1 gram and hindering prosecution," says Judge Gregory Stewart.

Prosecutors say Valenzuela is the girl friend of the main suspect Manuel Bustamante who has been on the run since the killing and is believed to be somewhere south of the border.   Ochoa is facing 4 separate offenses similar to Valenzulea but not exactly the same.

"1st degree murder, conspiracy to commit possession of narcotic drugs, conspiracy to armed robbery, and resisting arrest," says Judge Gregory Stewart.

Bond for both Valenzeula and Ochoa will remain in the amount of $1 million dollars cash only and special conditions will remain in effect for them both.

They are not to have weapons, or contact the alleged suspects.  They are both due back in court later this month.
