SAN LUIS, AZ - One local city has a new leader following the sudden resignation of the former mayor.
Councilmember, Gerardo Sanchez, was getting ready to wrap up his career in politics as he wasn't seeking re-election during the upcoming elections.
But during a special meeting yesterday he was named the new mayor of San Luis.
Sanchez will serve as mayor for two years to finish Mayor Juan Carlos Escamilla's term.
Escamilla announced his resignation from office on our newscast last week and said he will be running for a seat at the state's House of Representatives.
The new mayor will be sworn in during the council meeting next week.
