CALEXICO, CA- U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seize more $800,000 worth of narcotics in two separate incidents.
The first incident happened Tuesday at the Calexico East Port of Entry.
CBP says a canine team alerted suspicion to the engine area of a green 2002 GMC Yukon.
Through further inspection officers found 16 pounds of heroin hidden in the vehicles radiator.
The street value of the heroin is estimated at $192,000.
The driver , a 34 year old man and the passenger, a 35 year old woman were arrested and booked into Imperial County Jail.
The second incident occurred early Thursday morning at the Calexico Downtown Port of Entry.
CBP says the driver of a silver 1999 Isuzu Rodeo SUV was referred for further inspection.
Officers then discovered 20 wrapped packages of cocaine hidden inside a non-factory compartment in the gas tank.
The estimated street value of the cocaine is nearly $624,000.
The driver, a 50 year old Mexicali resident, was arrested for the alleged narcotic smuggling attempt and was booked into Imperial County Jail.
