Yuma business is targeted by cash mob

Posted: Updated:

Yuma, AZ--Debra Mansheim, owner of Basket Creations in downtown Yuma was the target of Yuma's first cash mob.

"Business has been awesome is great to have so many local people to come out and support our local business," Mansheim said.

The Arizona Small Business Development Center chose Basket Creations in order to encourage residents to buy locally.

Officials said the idea is to help give the local economy a boost, especially during summer months when business tends to slow down.

"It's very important, its important for our local business," Mansheim said. "Its important for our local economy because all the dollar you spend at a local business stays here in Yuma which we all want."

The store is the retail distributor for Bard Date and company. They offer everything from jewelry, clothes, food, home decor to gift baskets.

Customers were encouraged to spend a minimum of $20.

"It was good a lot of neat stuff that I haven't seen at other places," Dave Miller said.

After making the minimum purchase, shoppers were given a sticker that offered them a glass of wine for just $3 right next door at Yuma's Main Squeeze.
