Suspect who shot Yuma Sheriff deputies sentenced to 15 years

Yuma-A suspect who pleaded guilty to shooting at several Yuma County Sheriff deputies was sentenced today in court.

Leo Trujillo appeared at Yuma County Superior court this afternoon before Judge Nelson.

Prosecutors said deputies were serving a search warrant to retrieve weapons from a burglary back in September.

Three of 8 sheriff deputies were injured after Trujillo fired multiple rounds through his apartment door as they attempted to enter.

Trujillo said he didn't know they were deputies.

Trujillo was sentenced to 15 years in prison for 8 counts of aggravated assault.

The court ordered him to pay restitution of nearly $22,000 for injuries and damages done to Yuma County.
