San Luis Rio Colorado, MX- Family members, San Luis police and the community gathered for a ceremony to honor and remember Commander Luis Rodriguez Soqui.
"Yesterday we lost an important part of San Luis Rio Colorado. A commander that paid the cost to keep tranquility here in San Luis Mexico. We feel very bad," Says Lic. Joel Ricardo Aguirre Yescas- Municipal President San Luis, MX.
Commander Soqui served as the Director of Public safety for San Luis Rio Colorado, MX for over a year. Before taking his position he worked as a federal prosecutor in Sonora Mexico.
Mexican Authorities say the incident occurred on Saturday around 9PM at the Diana Residential Condominiums located at 27th street and Hidalgo.
"It happened at his house while he was leaving, three subjects approached him and shot him to death, he died instantly," says Lic. Yescas.
Sources tell News 13 he was shot at in the face and body over 17 times with a high powered rifle. Police are investigating the incident and the suspects remain at large.
Mexican authorities say despite the incident, the community shouldn't be concerned for their safety.
"No, people shouldn't be afraid. With all the coordinating including police from U.S. That are helping with the investigation. It's really important that we get to the bottom of this," says Lic. Yescas.
At this time Mexican Authorities say the motive behind the killing is unknown. The case will remain under investigation.
