Two vehicle crash near El Centro leaves two dead

EL CENTRO, CA - Two people are dead following a traffic crash involving a big rig and a pick-up truck in an area near El Centro this morning.

California Highway Patrol Officials say it happened just after 5am when an F-350 failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Keystone Road and Austin Road.

The pick up truck went right through the pathway of the big rig causing it to crash into a power pole and knocking it down.

The crash lead to a spill of the big rig's diesel saddle bags.

Both people driving the vehicles sustained fatal injuries.

The immediate area was closed off while crews cleaned up and restored the power lines.

CHP identified the drivers as Frank Freire and Cosme Flores.

The crash remains under investigation.
