CALIPATRIA, CA - A woman is behind bars for attempting to smuggle drugs into a local maximum security state prison yesterday morning.
Calipatria State Prison officials say Erika Recinos was visiting her inmate boyfriend, Moises Hernandez, on Sunday. After being processed, Recinos went into the restroom and came out with a strong smell of marijuana.
Recinos was accompanied by her 6-year-old daughter and 13-year-old sister.
After searching her, prison officials found almost 30 grams of marijuana in a bindle in her mouth.
The drugs have an estimate prison value on $7,500.
The children were picked up by Child Protective Services.
Recinos boyfriend was placed on administrative segregation and charged with conspiracy to introduce a controlled substance into the institution for distribution.
Recinos was booked into Imperial County Jail and is facing a felony charge for bringing a control substance into a jail.
She remains in custody on $25,000.
