Imperial County Registrar Office preps for Elections

Posted:

IMPERIAL VALLEY, CA - The Imperial Valley Registrar of Voters Office making last minute preparations before Tuesday's Presidential Primary Elections.

Sylvia Bermudez, the Registrar of Voters for Imperial County says "Staff has been sorting and processing the mail ballots. We went around this morning and picked up ballot boxes from all the cities. We had ballot boxes available at all the city halls to make things a little easier for voters to drop off their ballots."

Bermudez tells News 13, this year the Registrars Office sent out over 24,000 vote by mail ballots. However, just a day before the election they've only received about 6,100 of those back. Their hoping by tomorrow people really get out and vote."

Bermudez says Imperial County has always been known for a low turn out, but they hope the numbers can prove them wrong this election and encourages everyone to vote.

Starting tomorrow voters can cast their ballots at any 72 locations available from 7 in the morning until 8 at night.

She says "people can actually go to our website they can type in their name and address, but it has to be as they registered. So, if they've moved since then and didn't update that with us I would recommend they call us to try and find out the closest location."

Bermudez says in addition to the state wide races including the presidential, senate and assembly locally there are quite a bit as well. She says "We have a couple county board seats up. IID Board of Directors, we have measures for different cities and Calexico has two on the ballot for their residents."

Voters can also expect to cast their vote for the judicial seats that are up for reelection. Something Bermudez says is not so much controversial, but important to a lot of residents.
