Friends and family mourn Imperial County couples death

IMPERIAL COUNTY, CA- Friends and family of a couple well known in Imperial County continue to mourn following a tragic fire that killed them.

The Imperial County Fire Chief tells News 13 John and Pauline McConnell died after their house on McConnell Road, between Holtville and El Centro, was consumed by a fire around 5 a.m. Monday.

He says there was little left of the rural home and the couple was found inside.

The photograph of the couple was taken by the Imperial Valley Press in front of their home back in 2010.

John was 89 and his wife Paulene was 87.

The McConnell couple was very involved in the agriculture in the community serving on boards and volunteering.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Autopsies were scheduled for Tuesday.
