El Centro, CA - The Imperial County Sheriffs Department  has determined that the male subject in a video sent to their attention was 34 year old Anthony Sanchez of Heber, Ca.  Friday afternoon Mr. Sanchez voluntarily came to the Sheriff's Office and was arrested and booked into the Imperial County Jail on Felony Child Abuse charges, a violation of California Penal Code Section 273a(a).

The Imperial County Sheriffs Office is investigating video footage sent to them on YouTube showing an adult using a belt to strike a child a number of times.  Lieutenant Scott Sheppeard says "the video footage had been put onto YouTube prior to the notification of our agency."  He says "we have been actively investigating the incident since the time it was reported Wednesday."

The video that has since been taken off YouTube shows a man playing ball in his back yard with a young boy. It appears to be videotaped by a neighbor from a house overlooking the back yard. The adult appears to be playing ball with the child but stops to whip him with a belt or strap to reinforce his apparent displeasure with how the child is performing. The child seems quite distressed. The neighbor is heard to open the window and challenge the man to stop.

Lieutenant Scott Sheppeard of the Imperial Sheriffs Office says no further information will be released until he has updated information or details. KSWT is continuing to follow this story and will post updates as soon as they are confirmed.

There have been reports the person in the video is Imperial Irrigation District Board of Director Anthony Sanchez.

The Imperial County Sheriffs Department has not confirmed Mr. Sanchez is a person they are talking to about this case. KSWT did talk to Sanchez's attorney Ryan Childers and he says he and Mr. Sanchez were in contact with the Sheriffs Office Thursday morning and will cooperate with their investigation however they can.

He says at this point no charges have been filed against Mr. Sanchez and he says if there comes a point if they are filed Mr. Sanchez will turn himself in.
