YUMA, AZ - Experts say most accidental drowning deaths happen in five minutes or less, But the Quechan resort and casino along with Paradise Casino say they are hoping to change that in Yuma, and the Imperial Valley by holding a family "Water Safety Splash Day," An event to educate families on the importance of water and summer safety while making it a fun.
"It's splash day for the kids so it's an event they can come out to eat and have fun with their families." Says, Quechan Employee Vanessa Esperanza.
The" Hear the Silence Save a life'' campaign, is organized by the casinos to prevent the number of child related drowning deaths in Yuma and the Imperial Valley regions. Experts say when you notice silence in the pool, it may be a trigger that something is wrong.
Today event organizers hope children and their parents are made aware of ways to stay safe. "Any horse play between kids may sometimes lead to an altercation, so its best to just make sure that they are not out of your sight.'' Says, Quechan Community Center Lifeguard, Jason Lomaintewa.
The safety water and pool event included an educational pool party along with free food and activities for all who attended. Activity booths and local radio stations also entertained the crowd. While many came to learn some safety tips, others just came to enjoy the sun. "We are here to enjoy the people and to come out and to enjoy a Saturday." Says, Hailey Damon
El Dorado broadcasters and Quechan Resort and Casino along with the paradise casino say they hope this event can help in the prevention of child drownings this summer.
