YUMA, AZ - What was meant to be a fun day at the river turned frightening for one family when a teenager and two toddlers nearly drown.
Crowds gathered around as paramedics fought to save the life of this 17-year-old boy who was found at the bottom of the Colorado River at the Ocean to Ocean bridge in Yuma. Paramedics were called out to the scene just before 5 o'clock Wednesday.
According to the Yuma County Sheriff's Office the teenager was visiting from Calexico with his family when he went out to the water with his younger siblings, but found himself in trouble on the north side of the river. YCSO says during his struggle he released the kids and went under the water.
A bystander at the river tells News 13 he noticed two toddlers drifting and not swimming. He then rescued the two kids but didn't realize there was a 3rd.
YCSO says the two children ages 2 and 5 are ok, but their older brother has been flown to Phoenix Children's Hospital.
